More recently, Chris Guillebeau, a self employed travel writer who is working his way to see and experience every country on Earth wrote his manifesto. I found it to be a rather inspiring read that motivates people to follow their true dreams and desires, whatever they may be.
In his manifesto, he mentions the idea of writing out what your perfect day would look like. This way you have a written end result of where you would like to vision your life to go. This allows you to conceptualize what steps are necessary to make your dreams possible.
Around the same time, I came across Matt’s blog post on his perfect day. He had just read Chris’s manifesto and decided to write about his perfect day to start to visualize his life coming together. If you have a chance you should definitely check out his blog here.
Reading the manifesto followed by somebody initiating their perfect day post finally inspired me to do the same. So if interested, travel with me for a bit to my future and take a look at an ideal day…
Give me a second to get this time machine working………………………………………strange beeps and sounds…………………….cranking and clunking……………………(sorry, I got this time machine through an electronic IKEA type of place where I have to build it myself)……………………………………………………………more clunking………………………beep……bop………..boop boop beep bop………………………………life gets hazy and slowly fades into………….
… wave crashes are heard in the background. (whether it’s from a lake, sea, or an ocean I’m not sure yet) It’s early in the morning and the sun’s rays wake me to get my day started. The same rays shine on the lids of my wife’s eyes. I smile and stealthily make my way out of bed as she rolls over to avoid the light and again embrace her peaceful sleep.
As I throw on my hoodie and grab my ipod, my old dog perks her ears up, notices me, groans and then rolls over.
As I leave the bedroom I look out at my cozy home. It’s a spacious three bedroom with a basement that is home to my stupidly awesome man cave consisting of favorite artwork, a pool table, books upon books, gadgets, cigars and a selection of beverages. (I gotta have one for me and the guys) In the basement is also an extra room for friends visiting, couchsurfers and backpackers.
Before heading out the door, I walk to the room over, kiss my daughter’s forehead and cover her with the blankets she had kicked off in the night.
I make my way outside into the brisk air and start my ritualistic morning jog through the neighborhood jamming out to some music.
I arrive back home a little later to find my daughter pushing and poking my old dog around while early morning cartoons play in the background. I give her a hug, kiss and ask what she wants for breakfast, cereal and some toast with me. I tell her to go wake up her mom and see what she wants.
I get the cereal (I love cereal), make some eggs, and get the toast ready. All the while listening to my wife and daughter laugh, talk and roll around under the sheets of the bed.
Laughingly, hair messed up, my wife walks out with our daughter and we eat breakfast together. My little girl argues with me about how her marshmallow filled cereal is better than my old person bran flake cereal. As I start to defend myself, the women begin making faces at each other and playing with their food. Sternly and playfully I get them to finish up. I then proceed to hop in the shower and get ready for the rest of the day.
By this time, my daughter is all cleaned up and has her dolls and toys ready to go. With a kiss goodbye, we leave my wife at the house and start off towards my mom’s house who lives nearby.
As we pull up in my Jeep, my girl already has her seat belt unfastened. As soon as I turn the car off she bolts out with arms wide open to embrace her beautiful grandma at the front door. They start chattering in Spanish (I want to raise my kids fluent in Spanish, English and if I can manage it, another language). I give my mom a hug and we catch up a bit. I hear about the latest that my younger brother has done to cause an unnecessary argument with her. That guy…
I get around to telling the two I love them and drive off.
I stop by a local coffee shop for a drink, to check my emails, and meet up with a good friend. This friend (don’t know who) started some type of business or non-profit that helps people in various ways. We talk about the potential for growth of the org and move on towards other ideas and opportunities we are creating in our lives. Refreshed and motivated we part ways.
I make my way back to my house and proceed to work out of my home office. (I’m not sure what I’ll be involved with or what I will have created but through investments and ideas, I envision myself working independently out of my house or wherever I may be traveling) In between some business work, I make calls to close friends around the globe who I have helped and who have helped me be a positive and helping influence on those around us.
(I want to have started some sort of foundation at this point, or a little further in the future) I chat via Skype, or whatever the current social medium is, to my close friend who I have set in charge of the foundation. I get input on how he/she is running the program and continue to help out and guide in any and all ways possible.
(I can’t see specifics now, but at the end of the day, I just want to be able to help and connect as many people as possible to create the most good on this planet that I can. I want to make a difference.)
Early evening comes along as my wife gets home after picking up our daughter. As for what my wife does, I have no idea. Something that she enjoys and makes her happy of course.
We talk about the days events and I listen to stories of adventure, playing in the water, cooking and princesses from my little girl. With a grin I twirl her around and we play together. (she is daddy’s little girl)
My wife and I cook dinner as our daughter is off somewhere playing with her toys. We all sit down to eat and enjoy each others company for dinner. As always I throw some food scraps to my old dog laying at my feet.
It’s summer time so the sun is still out for a bit. After cleaning up, we leash up my dog and all walk to the local park. As my daughter plays on the swings and makes new friends, my wife and I comment on how beautiful our girl is. We stay until she finally starts to tire out and then head back home. We watch the sun set from our back porch overlooking the lake/ocean listening to the waves.
Calling it day we all head inside. My wife and I tuck our daughter into bed then relax a bit, just the two us. We enjoy a drink together, converse and make plans to have our friends over for the weekend. Laughing, talking and enjoying each others presence my ideal day comes to an end…….life gets hazy and fades…
……………beep beep bop bam…………………clink clunk clank…………………. boop boop……………………weird electronic sounds…………….bop beep………………….. aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnndddddddd we’re back.
So if you’re still with me, hopefully you enjoyed a look into my future life. That is quite a ways down and somewhat frightening to think about…exciting, but frightening. Also, that is a typical weekday, along with that will be fun-filled weekends with friends and family. And of course, without a doubt, exploring the world with the wife and daughter, spending lots of time learning about others and life in general.
What does your ideal day look like? Where will you be and what will you be doing?
