First Day in a City Without Obligations - 30 Minute Writing Exercise

Raw writing for 30 minutes, expect errors.

Tonight's prompt, "You wake up in a city you’ve never been to, with no obligations."

*Timer Starts NOW

The smell of rain and what sounds like distant bells wakes me up.

Yawning, I put on my glasses, "Hey Nyx, what's the plan for today?"

My glasses, doubling as my AI secretary and alarm clock notifies, "Good morning Pablo, vitals show you had peak rest last night, you must be feeling pretty good?"

Stretching my legs, I walk to the window overlooking the city, "You know, I do feel pretty good actually. Something about a new city, it's like my body knows I need rest in order to explore."

Looking down I see pedestrians and bicyclists, more than most cities. The streets here, seem to be immaculately well kept.

"Well that's good to hear as today is one of your unicorns as you call them."

"No kidding eh? No meetings or calls? No events to talk about this project?"

"Not until tomorrow morning. You requested to keep the first day clear."

Nodding and smiling, I walk back into the apartment, "You know what to do Nyx".

"You got it sir."

I swipe across the air with my hand from what's within my frame of you over to the restroom.

Lights warm on as Naughty by Nature's, "Feel Me Flow" begins to play over the speakers.

"Let's do the usual iced latte and line up a route to this village I keep hearing about."

"You got it!"

While showering, the Barista appliance readies my iced vanilla latte with oatmilk.

Hopping out, I dry off, change, grab my coffee and make my way into the city.

This city is the first of it's a kind. A protype based around the AI UBI merger theory.

*halfway point

"Nyx, tell me about this city again?"

"Based on recorded data since the middle of the cold war and Universal Basic Income jumping in searches during Covid, this concept began to form."

"Imagine I'm in 4th grade please."

"Companies using AI make a lot more money because less employees and more automation. They're only allowed to do this by paying very high taxes that directly go to the people living here."

"How is working so far?"

"The income people are receiving covers all basic living expenses with a pretty sum on top. Less people are working, but more people are spending."

"Well that's pretty great. What's happening to the creatives?"

"You're beginning to approach the village, so you'll get to see for yourself. It's a sort of new renaissance. Those who love to work are advancing technology. Those who love to create have the time and resources to do so."

In having the conversation, the lenses in my glasses display random facts as I walk.

VH1 Pop-up Video style.

-These roads are composed of and lit up with LED's and powered by kinetic energy and solar energy.

-Androids are capable of watering and pruning all plants in the city

-Star wars sponsored the city with R2D2's to act as trash duty and information hubs

-"The Village" is composed of 27 artists ranging from audio and video specialists to painters and ceramic artists, to live performance.

As if on cue, an R2D2 unit appears next to me as I take the last drink of my coffee.

"The Village" appears to be a sort of downtown walkable city center with music and tables and water fountains. The surrounding structures are mix of experimental restaurants and studio spaces all open to the public.

-Artists have 2 year terms, with additional funding towards their projects based on success metrics

"Hey Nyx, this is something else... this could really be a thing."

"I thought you might like this."

"I'm curious though, the guys that started this, why did they invite me? What do they want to meet about?"

"They said the village is almost the perfect 3rd space, but it's missing something. They want your thoughts and input."
